KARACHI (Kashmir English): As the rescue efforts are under way, the death toll in tragic incident of building in Lyari reaches to 27, with more people to be under the rubble, according to rescue officials.
The tragic event happened when a five story building collapsed in Lyari area of Karachi on July 4, 2025.
According to reports, the rescue teams have clear most of the debris from the collapsed building. The rescue operation is being carried out with caution.
As of now, 27 dead bodies have been recovered from the rubble, including nine women, 15 men, and a ten-year boy and one-and-half-year-old girl. The burial of the dead bodies were sent to the Mowach Goth Maheshwari graveyard in Baldia.
The Sindh structure Control Authority (SBCA) had ruled the 1974-erected structure unsafe three years prior, and residents had received many orders to leave the area.
The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Javed Khoso also confirmed that three years ago, this structure was deemed hazardous. A month and a half ago, the building received a notice.
In Lyari, there are still twenty-two very unsafe structures. In Lyari, 16 hazardous buildings have already been evacuated, and efforts are underway to evacuate further buildings.
According to Javed Khoso, people are notified to leave the building following the notification.
