MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): A disturbing trend of online scams has emerged in Muzaffarabad, where relatives of youths living abroad are being emotionally blackmailed and financially exploited through WhatsApp.

The relatives and friends of overseas Pakistani students are being targeted by unknown numbers, demanding thousands of rupees.

As per details, the family of Farooq Ahmed Abbasi, who is a resident of Bela Noor Shah and a student in the UK, has been affected, with scammers pretending to be Farooq and demanding money from his friends and relatives.

The scammers have been forcibly demanding money through WhatsApp for the past few weeks.

In this regard, the family of Farooq Abbasi has requested his friends to contact his family members before sending money to anyone in his name, because two to three people have been scammed.

The family has requested the authorities to take action against those selling SIMs illegally for free on the streets of Muzaffarabad and to regulate Easypaisa shops and phone vendors.
