SUZHOU, China (Kashmir English): A residential building in China has attracted world attention for to its unusual structure resembling pyramid.
The building is regarded as a wonderful example of modern architectural design. China is known for its unusual residential buildings and apartment complexes.
The country has giant honeycomb-style buildings that can exclusively accommodate around 20,000 people, while some structures have railway tracks passing through them and others stand between busy flyovers.
Pyramid-shaped residential building
However, a pyramid-shaped residential building also exists in China. The Kunshan Pyramid, located in the Huachiao district, is among China’s most recognised residential buildings.
The construction of the modern-era building was completed in 2013, and since then it has remained one of the city’s famous tourist attractions.
Unlike the actual pyramids in Egypt, the 18-storey Kunshan Pyramid consists of two vertical outer walls, while the other two walls are slanted.
Apartments are arranged in a step-like pattern at a 45-degree angle, creating an impressive visual effect.
According to the architecture firm which completed the project, traditional Chinese rice fields provided inspiration for the building’s design.
Although the unique design provides a large terrace for each apartment’s sloping section, the structure faces several practical challenges.
Its awkward style creates difficulties with ventilation and lighting systems inside the structure, while the building design is also a potential hindrance to the fire safety arrangements.
