MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Kashmir Accountability Court has sentenced Tariq Pervez, a cashier of the Public Works Department (PWD) Maintenance Division, to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment and a heavy fine after being found guilty.

The Accountability Court of Azad Kashmir had received a reference against the accused Tariq Pervez, on which an investigation was conducted on the instructions of the Chairman Accountability Bureau.

Following the investigation, which confirmed the allegations, the court imposed a fine of Rs 18.96 million on the accused, equivalent to the amount misappropriated, during the announcement of the verdict

The convict will undergo the sentence of imprisonment in Central Jail Rara. As per the rules, a warrant of imprisonment has been issued to the Superintendent of Jail.

The court orders that the fine amount should be deposited in the government treasury.

The amount should be recovered from his properties by the land revenue department if the accused fails to submit it in cash.

However, the court has acquitted the Bank Manager, Iftikhar Ahmed Haidari, by giving him the benefit of the doubt.
