KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari has been discharged after being treated for 10 days in a private hospital in Karachi, his physician Dr Asim Hussain said on Friday.

Dr. Asim, the president’s physician, confirmed that Zardari had tested negative for COVID-19 and he showed signs of recovery.

The physician added that the president was undergoing physiotherapy as part of his recovery, according to his physician, and the president was expected to remain hospitalised for another couple of days.

“The president has tested negative for COVID-19 on a rapid test but remains under the care of infectious disease specialists,” Dr Asim said to a private news channel.

The president was admitted to the hospital on April 1 after experiencing fever and infection symptoms. Zardari had been shifted from Nawabshah to Karachi on the night of Eid ul Fitr for medical care.

Earlier on April 5, Dr. Asim said that President Zardari is ‘medically fit’ and will be discharged from the hospital in a day or two. “He will definitely be discharged within the next 48 hours. He is medically fit and being examined by specialists,” the physician told reporters.

The president has been placed in isolation after testing positive for COVID-19 a few days ago, a statement from the President House said on Wednesday.

At 69 years of age, President Zardari has had multiple health issues in recent years.
