MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): President Azad Kashmir Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry urged the international community during an Iftar dinner to help resolve the Kashmir dispute, emphasising Muslim nations’ role and highlighting key development projects.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry has urged the international community to play a more decisive role in resolving the longstanding Kashmir dispute, which he described as the root cause of unrest and human rights violations in the region.

Speaking at an Iftar dinner hosted in his honour by former government adviser Sardar Tabarak in the state capital, the President emphasised that the unresolved Kashmir issue demands urgent attention from the global community. He stated that during his engagements with ambassadors of Islamic countries, he had urged them to advocate for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

He reaffirmed that Muslim nations have consistently supported the Kashmiris’ legitimate right to self-determination and expressed confidence that the Muslim Ummah would continue its efforts to ensure justice for the people of Indian-occupied Kashmir. The President stressed that those in AJK must use their freedom responsibly to amplify the voices of their brothers and sisters in occupied Kashmir, who remain oppressed under draconian laws.

During his tenure, Barrister Sultan Mahmood implemented numerous development strategies, which he presented to the audience. According to Barrister Sultan Mahmood, the Jagran hydropower project started under his earlier government phase to yield Rs8 billion in revenue and attract roughly Rs40 million each month. This indicates that launching more such projects would lead to autonomous power generation for Azad Kashmir.

During his address, the President stressed again that the Kashmir situation will not fade away by itself. The leader has previously too called upon the international community to conduct substantial actions which would find solutions to the dispute while safeguarding the rights of the Kashmiri people.
