ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) have announced a formal electoral alliance for the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections.
Leaders of both parties announced the decision during a joint press conference in Islamabad. Speaking on the occasion, PPP leader Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin said that this political alliance would greatly benefit both parties in the state.
He stated that the PPP leadership has always highlighted the Kashmir issue vigorously on every international and local forum.
PPP-JUI alliance
Regarding the seat adjustment formula and constituencies, Chaudhry Yasin announced that JUI candidates would be the joint candidates of both parties in LA-14 and LA-23 constituencies.
Maulana Saeed Yusuf, Ameer of JUI Azad Kashmir, speaking on the occasion, said it is for the first time in the history of Azad Kashmir that the two parties formed an electoral alliance.
He clarified that the PPP would support JUI in the aforementioned two constituencies, while JUI would support PPP candidates in all other constituencies of the state.
It is worth noting that the general elections for the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly are scheduled for July 27, 2026.
