SYDNEY: New South Wales Police on Thursday arrested seven people in Sydney’s south-west, accused of planning violence on Bondi Beach, days after the deadly terror attack killed 15 people.
As per details, heavily armed counter-terrorism cops rammed into a car and detained the suspects who were allegedly on their way to Bondi Beach, where a violent act was possibly being planned on Thursday evening.
A NSW Police spokesperson said that the Tactical Operations police responded to information received that a violent act was possibly being planned
“Police subsequently intercepted two cars as part of the investigation. As investigations continue, seven men are assisting police with their inquiries,” the statement added.
The police spokesperson confirmed that at this point, police have not identified any connection to the current police investigation of the Bondi terror attack.
Footage and photos circulating on social media showed a white Hyundai that appeared to have been damaged in a collision cordoned off by police. They were seen on the ground, handcuffed after cops successfully intercepted them at an intersection in Liverpool city.
The new detentions signal deepening security concerns and suggest the network behind the attack may be larger and more coordinated than initially believed.
