MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have submitted nomination papers for the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly.
PML-N has nominated Chaudhry Tariq Farooq for the position of Speaker, while Ahmed Raza Qadri has been named as the party’s candidate for Deputy Speaker.
PML-N leader and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has approved the party’s nominations for both positions. PML-N Azad Kashmir President Shah Ghulam Qadir confirmed the names, saying the party has a clear majority in the Assembly and its candidates are in a strong position to win both elections.
Meanwhile, the PPP has also submitted nomination papers for the two key positions. The party has nominated Chaudhry Qasim Majeed for Speaker and Amir Ghaffar Lone for Deputy Speaker.
The submission of nomination papers sets the stage for a contest between the two major political parties for the top parliamentary offices of the AJK Assembly.
