ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has issued show-cause notices to 12 medical and dental institutions for charging annual fees above the approved cap of Rs. 1.8 million, PMDC President Dr. Rizwan Taj said during a media briefing.

The council’s fee regulations will be enforced at colleges, which the council officials will monitor, according to Dr. Taj’s statement to reporters. The PMDC is currently investigating 40 additional cases, which the courts dismissed after their related petitions were sent back to the council.

The council reached an agreement with the Pakistan Association of Medical Institutions (PAMI), which requires institutions to stop their legal battles while they create solutions for student issues, according to him.

A follow-up meeting is scheduled later this month. Dr. Taj said institutions seeking to raise fees to Rs. 2.5 million must submit detailed financial justifications to the PMDC.

The council will review such requests through a formal evaluation process before granting any approval. He warned that colleges charging fees beyond the approved cap without prior authorization will have to compensate students.

The extra payments, which he mentioned, will either be refunded or deducted from the upcoming school year. The PMDC has requested students and parents to refrain from paying fees that exceed the established fee limit.
