ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has fixed the highest annual tuition fee for medical and dental colleges for the 2025–26 academic year at Rs. 1.89 million — a 5% rise from last year’s ceiling of Rs. 1.8 million.
As per details, released under the PMDC Act 2022, the Rs. The 1.8 million limit fixed for 2024–25 will increase by 5% for 2025–26.
From 2026–27, fee adjustments will be made annually as per the Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate.
The new format was proposed by the Medical Education Committee constituted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The notification requests all private medical and dental colleges to post their approved fee structure at least three months before admissions opening, as per Section 20(7) of the PMDC Act.
The PMDC has threatened to take disciplinary action against any institution that charges or exhibits excessive fees over the approved ceiling, such as suspension of accreditation, admission of students, or other legal proceedings under Section 33 of the Act.
Background and previous actions
The problem of excessive tuition fees has continued from last year, when parents complained about high increases.
The issue came to the notice of the Senate Standing Committee on Health after PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui made repeated objections.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif subsequently appointed a committee under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar to review and slash the fees.
After the review, the PMDC formally set limits on yearly fees at Rs. 1.8 million for the 2024–25 session — a threshold which has since been increased by 5% for the next academic year.
