ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with the President of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, today on the sidelines of the 26th SCO Council of Heads of State (CHS) meeting in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a press release.
Earlier today, PM Shehbaz arrived at Manas International Airport in Bishkek on a three-day official visit from Aug 31 to Sep 2 and was received by the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Adylbek Kasymaliev.
The Foreign Office earlier said that the visit will include participation in the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting, as well as bilateral engagements in the Kyrgyz Republic.
During the warm and cordial meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed the close and longstanding ties between the two countries, the press release stated.
“The meeting emphasized the need to further strengthen bilateral relations across all areas of mutual cooperation, in line with decisions taken during the visit of President Pezeshkian to Pakistan in June this year.”
They also reviewed ongoing efforts aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and people-to-people contacts.
Moreover, the statement added that both leaders also exchanged views on the evolving regional situation.
While reaffirming that Pakistan would continue its sincere efforts for regional peacebuilding, the Prime Minister stated that “the recent visit of Field Marshal Asim Munir to Tehran and his constructive engagements augured well in this regard.”

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of restraint and sustained diplomatic engagement to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region, the PMO said.
“He also underscored the need to build on the understandings reached under the Islamabad MoU, as it offered the only viable pathway towards enduring peace in the region.”
President Masoud Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan’s consistent diplomatic efforts for regional peace and security.
“The Iranian President also underscored the enduring strength of Pakistan-Iran relations, rooted in centuries of shared history, culture, and faith, and reaffirmed Tehran’s strong desire to further deepen cooperation across a wide range of sectors.”
He stressed the need to forge unity among the Ummah to deal with contemporary challenges, as per the press release.
“The Prime Minister extended an invitation to President Pezeshkian to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at his earliest convenience. The Iranian President also invited the Prime Minister to the forthcoming ECO Summit in Tehran in December 2026.”
The meeting was attended by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, SAPM Syed Tariq Fatemi, and Foreign Secretary Amb. Amna Baloch. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other high officials were also present.
