NEW YORK (Kashmir English): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and expressed a firm resolve to stabilize the economy and advance reforms aimed at sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s House, the meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Advisor on Privatization Muhammad Ali, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, and other senior officials were also present at the meeting.
The Prime Minister appreciated the IMF’s continued support for Pakistan’s economy and reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to implementing the ongoing reform program supported by the IMF.
He also acknowledged the role played by Kristalina Georgieva in further strengthening the constructive partnership between Pakistan and the IMF.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed a firm resolve to stabilize the economy and advance reforms for sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
The Prime Minister stated that, thanks to prudent fiscal and monetary policies, Pakistan is moving towards economic recovery alongside economic stability.
He highlighted improvements in fiscal discipline, foreign exchange reserves, and investor confidence, while emphasizing the government’s commitment to protecting vulnerable segments of society and continuing economic reforms.
On this occasion, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva appreciated Pakistan’s performance under the IMF program and the government’s efforts toward economic stability.
The IMF Managing Director said the meeting discussed the ongoing reforms in Pakistan. Strict implementation of these reforms helped maintain economic stability, restored confidence, and facilitated Pakistan’s renewed access to global markets.
Kristalina Georgieva remarked that continuing the reform process would boost economic growth and help improve the standard of living for the public.
Both leaders discussed Pakistan’s upcoming IMF program review and the advancement of reforms.
