MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Prime Minister of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, has described the 1947 Jammu massacre as one of the worst massacres in human history, describing it as a “systematic plan” by Indian forces, the Dogra regime, RSS, and Akali Dal terrorists under the patronage of Dogra Maharaja Hari Singh.
In a statement issued on the occasion of Jammu Martyrs’ Day, PM Haq paid tribute to the Jammu Muslim martyrs, saying that the massacre was carried out to turn the Muslim majority of Jammu and Kashmir into a minority.
Thousands of Muslims were killed, and tens of thousands were forced to migrate to Pakistan. “In the first week of November 1947, Muslims of Jammu were put into vehicles under the pretext of being taken to Pakistan, only to be taken to deserted areas and martyred.”
According to British media, about 250,000 unarmed Muslims were martyred in this massacre, and hundreds of women were kidnapped, including the daughter of Raees-ul-Ahrar Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas, he said.
The Prime Minister praised the Kashmiri people for their unwavering struggle for freedom and vowed to support their cause.
“Millions of Muslims were forced to migrate to Pakistan, and the people of Pakistan not only gave these refugees a place in their homes but also gave them a respectable position in society,” the premier added.
PM Anwarul Haq accused India of continuing to use tactics to alter the demographic composition of occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35-A. He urged the international community to take notice of Indian atrocities and ensure the implementation of UN resolutions.
“In occupied Kashmir, the Indian army and the puppet administration are busy in unsuccessful efforts to suppress the voices of those raising the slogans of freedom and independence,” the statement quoted him as saying.
Haq reaffirmed his government’s support for the Kashmiris’ struggle for self-determination, saying their resolve and passion for freedom remain unbroken. He vowed to keep the torch of freedom burning bright, hoping that one day the green flag would be hoisted in Srinagar.
