What is the Jagran hydel power project?

The Jagran Hydel Power Project functions as a hydroelectric facility situated within the Neelum Valley section of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) in Pakistan. The Jagran River which branches off from Neelum River serves as power source to create electrical energy at this facility.

The Jagran hydel power project, which will contribute 48 MW of electricity to the national grid, is situated on Jaggran Nullah close to the Line of Control. The project involves substantial tunnelling and aids in training locals in tunnelling techniques. By constructing secure retaining walls along the nullah, the project will also shield residents from seasonal flooding.

The project development occurs through multiple phases.

The Jagran-I stage has operated since 2000 with its power generation capacity set at 30 megawatts (MW).

The Jagran-II addition will increase capacity from its base level by 48 MW.

AJK Power Development Organization (PDO) controls the development of the Jagran Hydel Power Project through planning and implementing hydropower strategies in the region. When fully operational the combined power generation capacity of Jagran Hydel Power Project will substantially enhance regional power production to boost economic advancement throughout the area.
