MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): A writ petition was filed against the member of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission, Syed Nazir-ul-Hasan Gilani, in the High Court of AJK.
Justice Chaudhry Khalid Rashid accepted the petition, seeking the revocation of the appointment of the member of the Election Commission, Nazir-ul-Hasan Gilani.
The petitioner urged that the appointment of a member of the Election Commission is unconstitutional.
The petition, filed through Sardar Usman Qasim Advocate, states that the said Member of the Election Commission has never been a Secretary to the Government; he has only received time-scale promotions, and therefore, he is not eligible for this post.
The counsel took the position before the court that Nazir-ul-Hasan Gilani was not confirmed in Grade 21, which is required for this post.
The court, while accepting the petition, has fixed the hearing of the case for February 10 for discussion.
Syed Nazir-ul-Hassan Gilani took the oath as a member of the Election Commission on January 13, 2025. Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Abdul Rashid Sulehriya administered the oath to him.
