MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): President Azad Jammu and Kashmir Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry Tuesday said that during his visit to the US and UK, he effectively highlighted the Kashmir issue and the Indian government’s persistent human rights violations against Kashmiris.
While addressing a crowded press conference about his recent foreign tour, the President said that he successfully presented the case of the Kashmiri nation before the international community and drew its attention towards what he termed the dire human rights situation in the occupied territory.
Referring to his engagements with the US congressman and British parliamentarians, Chaudhry said, “During my interaction with British parliamentarians, I reminded them of Britain’s legal and moral responsibilities vis-a-vis the resolution of the lingering Kashmir issue”.
Kashmir issue legacy of British rule
Terming Kashmir issue as the legacy of British rule, the President said that the unresolved dispute is part of the mess that Britain left behind after quitting the subcontinent at the end of its 200 years of rule.
He said that it was high time that the world community took effective notice of the Indian government’s nefarious designs in the region and plays it’s much-needed role to resolve the lingering dispute in line with wishes and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
The President termed India’s imperialistic presence in the region as a threat to regional peace.
“The international community should bear in mind that the key to establishing peace in South Asia lies in resolving the Kashmir issue,” Barrister Chaudhry added.
He said that following the abrogation of article 370, the Indian government has intensified its attempts to completely grab the entire territory of Jammu and Kashmir that happens to be an internationally recognized disputed territory.
Barrister Chaudhry also expressed his concern over India’s transnational terror activities across the globe as he cite the killing of a Sikh activist by Indian secret agents in Canada recently. He said India under Modi’s government has emerged as a global terrorist.
He said that India, which claims to be the world’s largest democracy, has virtually turned into a fascist State under the BJP’s rule.
