WASHINGTON (Kashmir English): Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States (US) Rizwan Saeed Sheikh has urged the United States to play a constructive role in reducing Pak-India tensions as he also sought it play a role for the peaceful settlement of Kashmir dispute.
He said the US should take a broader look at the long-standing Jammu and Kashmir dispute, which, he added, remains a core issue between the two neighbouring countries.
In an interview with Fox News, Sheikh termed the region a nuclear flashpoint, adding, any miscalculation or aggressive move could affect millions of lives.
He said US President Donald Trump, who desired to promote peace globally, has a great opportunity to help defuse the tensions.
Pakistan’s representative in the US emphasised that Pakistan believed in peace and wants to avoid escalation.
The top diplomat said Pakistan is more than willing to be part of a neutral, transparent, and credible investigation into the Pahalgam incident, if India agrees.
He said Pakistan is still waiting for a response from India, but unfortunately, there has been no positive response so far from India.
“World should help address Kashmir issue”
Just as the world community responds to other conflicts worldwide, it should also address the Kashmir issue, the root-cause of instability in South Asia.
A fair and lasting solution is the only way to ensure peace, the ambassador emphasised.
He said the world, especially the United States, has a shared responsibility to promote international peace and security adding the current situation should not be ignored.
