SHARJA (Kashmir English): The Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 will witness Pakistan open their campaign against minnows Oman today, September 12.

This is set to be the 2nd clash of Group A. Pakistan came into the tournament on the strength of a good show, winning the T20 Tri-Series by defeating Afghanistan by 75 runs in the final.

Mohammad Nawaz’s hat-trick ensured an easy win in the series, which also included the UAE. Eighth-ranked in the world, Pakistan will look to accumulate valuable experience before its high-intensity clash with arch-rivals India.

The sluggish and slow pitches in the UAE led Pakistan to bring along spinners into the team, a move that proved fruitful in the Tri-Series and will be most important during the Asia Cup.

“We wanted to prepare in a way that helps us for the Asia Cup and we’ve done that,” Pakistan captain Salman Agha had said. “We’ve been doing really well since the Bangladesh series at home.

Now, we’re in very good shape and fully prepared.” Group A comprises India, Pakistan, Oman, and the UAE, with the marquee India-Pakistan clash scheduled for Sunday in Dubai.

Pakistan has chosen a youthful team under the captaincy of Agha, something that has already started paying dividends. Saim Ayub, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Nawaz, Sufiyaan Muqeem, and Agha are all supposed to be match-winners.

The spin bowling of the team appears to be especially strong with depth and variety, perfect for UAE conditions. With Agha at the helm, the T20I team has shown the aggressive approach of hitting from ball one approach which might be decisive.

Without stars Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, it will be a challenge of temperament for Salman Agha’s Pakistan team.

Oman, who are playing their first Asia Cup, are going into the match with minimal pressure but maximum aspirations. Cricket is played part-time, with most of the players having desk jobs, symbolizing their special path. “When we began, getting a job was our main work and cricket was secondary for us,” said Jatinder.

“Most of the boys worked in offices and then did cricket as a hobby.”. But I will say here and now that it’s a dream come true to play for Oman in the Asia Cup. Our camp is actually very excited and eager for the tournament.”
