ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Meteorological Department has predicted that a total of four astronomical phenomena, including two solar eclipses and two lunar eclipseswill occur in the year 2026,

Out of these, only one partial lunar eclipse will be visible in Pakistan, while the remaining three astronomical events will not be visible in the country.

According to the Meteorological Department, the first solar eclipse will be on February 17, 2026. This eclipse will begin at 3 pm Pakistan time, reach its peak at 5 pm, and end at 7:30 pm. However, this solar eclipse will not be visible in Pakistan.

The first lunar eclipse of the same year is expected on March 3, 2026. According to the Meteorological Department, this lunar eclipse will be partially visible in some northern parts of the country, during which a part of the moon will fall into the shadow of the Earth.

The second solar eclipse of 2026 will take place on August 12 and 13, but according to the Meteorological Department, it will also not be visible in Pakistan. After this, the second lunar eclipse is expected on August 28, which will not be visible in most parts of South Asia, including Pakistan.

According to astronomers, these astronomical phenomena occur due to slight changes in the Earth’s orbit, the angles of the sun and the moon.

Through these phenomena, scientists get an opportunity to understand the motion of the space system and conduct further research on it. Experts say that although most of these eclipses will not be visible in Pakistan, these opportunities will prove to be important for astronomers globally in terms of research.

All these astronomical events will be part of the sequence of celestial movements in 2026, which highlight the scientific importance of the interaction between the Earth, the sun, and the moon.
