LAHORE (Kashmir English): Pakistan Railways has introduced a fare increase in its express trains, freight trains, and saloon coaches from June 20, 2025.
Express trains and saloons will receive a 3% increase and freight train fares a 4% increase, according to a spokesperson.
The fare increase has been officially notified, and railway officials say the measure is aimed at balancing increasing operational costs and creating additional resources for service enhancement.
Earlier, Pakistan Railways announced a 20% discount on fares for all travellers during all three days of Eid-ul-Azha.
The passengers can avail of the facility on all three days of Eid, according to the officials. An official statement said the discount will be valid on all trains and classes, but will only apply to current bookings.
The decision to this effect was taken under the special directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the federal minister for Railways.
The officials said the department is also working to ensure smooth operations, increased security, and punctuality during Eid days. The nation celebrated Eid on Saturday (June 7).
