MELBOURNE (Kashmir English): A Pakistan fast bowler has been found guilty of ball tampering during a domestic fixture, according to reports from Australian media.
Irfan Junior has been banned for five matches in Australia as the Cricket Victoria tribunal ruled that Irfan had damaged the condition of the ball during a Victorian Premiership match.
The disciplinary body found sufficient evidence to impose the suspension, marking a serious breach of the sport’s code of conduct.
Ball tampering for gaining unfair advantage
According to Australian media outlets, Irfan Junior was accused of deliberately altering the ball’s condition to gain an unfair advantage during a domestic fixture.
After reviewing match footage and umpire reports, the panel determined that the pacer belonging to Pakistan had violated playing regulations regarding fair ball maintenance.
The verdict, delivered this week, led to the immediate five-match ban, which will apply to all Cricket Victoria-sanctioned competitions.
