ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday extended the airspace ban on Indian airlines or operators till August 23. Previously, on June 23, Pakistan had extended the airspace ban for Indian airlines till July 23.
The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has issued a new Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), reaffirming the ongoing suspension of overflight permissions for aircraft registered in India.
According to the NOTAM, all Indian-registered aircraft are strictly prohibited from using Pakistani airspace for any operations, including overflights and transit.
The restrictions were initially enforced on April 23 and have been consistently renewed since then.
Pakistan banned its airspace for all Indian airlines in a tit-for-tat move after New Delhi accused Islamabad of the Pahalgam incident on April 22.
As Pakistan called for an international investigation into the incident, India announced unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and demotion of diplomatic relations with Pakistan.
After the ban, reports indicated that Indian airlines suffered losses worth millions of dollars due to additional fuel costs from forced stopovers on long-haul flights.
