CALIFORNIA: OpenAI has introduced its new o3-mini model, which offers a “reasoning” model to all ChatGPT users, including those on the free tier, for the first time.
The o3-mini model can be accessed by clicking the “Reason” button in the message interface, and it has been proven to process responses 24% faster than the previous o1-mini model.
According to internal testing by OpenAI, the o3-mini model performs about as well as the more expensive o1 system in a variety of technical areas, such as mathematics, programming, and science, when tuned to “medium” reasoning effort.
The o3-mini model has also shown excellent results in specialized technical fields, and its performance approaches that of more expensive alternatives in dealing with complicated computational and analytical tasks.
Among the most prominent features of the o3-mini model is the transparent reasoning process, which makes it possible to trace how the system develops responses rather than simply receiving finished answers.
In addition, the model boasts built-in web search through ChatGPT Search-an innovation OpenAI said it will roll out across its entire family of reasoning models.
The rollout of the o3-mini has also nearly tripled daily message limits for ChatGPT Plus and Team subscribers from a paltry 50 per day to 150.
For those who want unlimited access to the new system, OpenAI is still offering its premium Pro tier at $200/month.
This development comes is in light of DeepSeek, which publicly introduced its newest AI model, making headlines in the tech world with their aggressive pricing and open-source system.
The o3-mini model displaces the choice of the former o1-mini in the option menu for using the platform; it is thought to deliver advanced and more effective reasoning experience.
