Nine civilians martyred by Afghan Taliban’s shelling in last two months in Bajaur

BAJAUR (Kashmir English): Nine innocent civilians were martyred, and twelve people were injured in several incidents in Bajaur district when Afghan forces opened unprovoked cross-border firing in the last two months.

According to the office of Deputy Commission Bajaur, six tragic incidents took place in March and April 2026 in the areas of Mamond and Salar, when the Afghan Taliban deliberately targeted the civilian population in the areas of Laghri and Tariyeh Shah.

“As a result of this aggression, nine innocent civilians were martyred, and twelve people were injured, while eight residential houses were destroyed,” the DC office said in a statement.

The Bajaur District Administration and security forces took action in a timely and effective manner, it said.

The authorities provided immediate relief to the affected families, the injured were given emergency medical assistance, and after initial treatment, they were shifted to Peshawar for better treatment and treatment.

Steps were taken to restore the damaged houses, and soon the heirs of the destroyed houses, the injured, and the martyrs will be compensated, the DC office of Bajaur said.

The timely action of the administration played a significant role in bringing the situation under control and assured the people that the government stands with them in difficult times.”

In addition, the local population has expressed deep anger and resentment over the aggression of the Afghan forces, and on April 16, 2026, regional elders, youth, and people belonging to all schools of thought protested strongly against the targeting of innocent civilians.

They demanded that such irresponsible actions by the Afghan forces be stopped immediately so that further loss of life and property can be avoided.

“The Bajaur district administration and security forces are continuously monitoring the situation and reiterate their resolve that all possible measures will be taken to protect the lives and property of the people,” the statement reads.
