MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Muzaffarabad Food Authority took action against the sale of adulterated milk and sealed a hotel in Tahli Mandi. Tests revealed the presence of skimmed milk powder in the milk.
The Muzaffarabad Food Authority is continuously working to ensure that citizens receive milk and other food items that meet health and safety standards.
According to details, a team from the Muzaffarabad Food Authority, led by the Additional Deputy Commissioner and District Food Controller of Muzaffarabad, conducted an operation in Tahli Mandi. They sealed a food business operator (FBO) for selling adulterated milk.
On the spot, the team collected milk samples and immediately tested them using a mobile food lab.
According to the report, there was skimmed milk powder in the milk. Skimmed milk powder is a common material used in dairy product fraud. Mixing it with fresh milk will make it thicker and more substantial.
The Food Authority remains committed to taking strict action against those who compromise food safety and public health.
In another instance, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Food Authority recently fined Pak Kashmir Foods, a papad company, for selling substandard food.
Tests in the laboratory found that Meethi Khushi Nimko, Chipser Spicy, Ho Ho Snacks, Goli Fit, Chatpatti and Chatpatti Ringi snacks by the company did not meet the safety standards required.
As a consequence, the company has received a fine of Rs300,000 and has been restricted from offering these products in any part of the region.
A full inspection of every product made by the company has been requested by officials, who should provide a comprehensive report to the authorities.
In a separate case, Quetta Karachi Cafe in Muzaffarabad was sealed after being caught using adulterated milk powder. The owners are facing legal actions.
The AJK Food Secretary has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to food safety, stating: “No leniency will be shown in taking action against those found selling adulterated or unhealthy food products.”
The department plans to carry out unannounced checks to maintain the quality of all food provided to customers.
