KARACHI (Kashmir English): Multan Sultans have further consolidated their second position on the points table by defeating Rawalpindiz by 6 wickets in the 31st match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 at the National Bank Stadium, Karachi, on Tuesday.
Winning the toss, Rawalpindiz captain Muhammad Rizwan decided to bat first, which did not prove beneficial at the beginning as openers Shahzeb Khan were dismissed for zero and Yasir Khan were dismissed for just 4 runs.
Rizwan scored 26, and Sam Billings scored 29 runs to support the innings; however, in the last overs, Daryl Mitchell’s unbeaten 58 runs, and Dian Forrester’s sizzling innings of 37 runs off just 15 balls took Rawalpindi’s total to 166 runs for 4 wickets.
For Multan Sultans, Mohammad Imran, Peter Siddle, Arafat Minhas, and Mohammad Wasim Jr. took one wicket each.
Chasing a target of 167 runs, the Multan Sultans batsmen started confidently, especially Australian star Steve Smith, who did not let the Rawalpindi bowlers go a single wicket and turned the match in his team’s favor by playing an aggressive innings of 56 runs off 31 balls.
Sahibzada Farhan and Shan Masood supported them by scoring 20 runs each, while captain Ashton Turner played a responsible innings of 37 runs off 21 balls to bring victory to the team in the 19th over.
Asif Afridi was the pick of the bowlers for the Pindiz, taking two wickets for 28 runs in his four overs, while Razaullah and Saad Masood could claim one each.
