Muharram 2025: Expected holiday dates for Ashura announced

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet on Friday, June 26, to sight the moon for Muharram 2025, which will initiate the new Islamic year 1446 AH.

The central meeting will be held at the deputy commissioners office in Quetta with Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad in the chair.

The zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal Committees will simultaneously hold their meetings at the respective headquarters across the nation. The ICT zonal committee will meet in the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony.

The ministry has also asked that all details regarding the position of the moon be shared immediately through specified landline and mobile numbers in order to enable the official moon-sighting declaration.

Ashura 2025 Dates

If the moon is visible on 26th June, the first day of Muharram 1447 AH will be Friday, 27th June, 2025. In this case, Ashura 2025, which is celebrated on the 10th of Muharram, is likely to be commemorated on Sunday, 6th July, 2025 in Pakistan.

Ashura Holidays in Pakistan

If the Muharram moon is visible tonight evening, the Ashura holidays will be celebrated on the 5th and 6th of July throughout Pakistan.

Suparco Predictions

The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has forecasted that the Muharram-ul-Haram moon will most probably be visible on June 26, 2025, in the evening.

SUPARCO‘s spokesperson explained that the new moon will be born at 3:32 PM Pakistan Standard Time on June 25, 2025.

On June 26, he
explained, at sunset, the moon would be about 28 hours and 15 minutes old and could be easily seen in most regions of the country under normal weather conditions.
