BANNU (Kashmir English): MNA Maulana Nasim Ali Shah has publicly withdrawn his recent remarks about national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal, describing them as a slip of the tongue and reaffirming his respect for Iqbal as Pakistan’s national poet and national hero.

In a video statement, Nasim Ali Shah said that he and other Pakistanis love the country and respect the ideology and teachings of Allama Iqbal.

He said his remarks made on August 14 had been given a different interpretation by his political opponents.

“Allama Iqbal is our ideological and national poet,” he said, adding that he follows Iqbal’s ideology, as does Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and every other Pakistani.

The lawmaker said his opponents had themselves created a narrative around his earlier remarks and clarified that he had no intention of disrespecting Allama Iqbal.

He added that Iqbal was a source of national pride and emphasized that Pakistanis across political affiliations shared respect for his philosophy and vision.
