SRINAGAR (Kashmir English): All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was reportedly placed under house arrest by Indian forces and prevented from delivering the Friday sermon and leading prayers following his criticism on Banned JAAC activities.

The action comes days after Mirwaiz Umar Farooq criticised the Action Committee during his previous Friday sermon.

His detention has drawn concern over restrictions on religious and political activities in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.

According to reports, security personnel prevented the Mirwaiz from leaving his residence, thereby stopping him from leading Friday prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.
