MIRPUR (Kashmir English): Local police have arrested a man for assaulting a woman in a Mirpur market after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
On Friday, 27 June, police in Mirpur arrested one Zahoor Mughal who was caught on video assaulting a woman in a city market as passersby looked on.
According to details, the incident took place apparently after the woman was caught stealing something from an under-renovation shop. Zahoor, the shop owner, slapped, verbally abused, and thrashed her on the road, prompting the law-enforcement authorities to spring into action. He also got a criminal case registered against the woman.
FIR registered at Mirpur police station
An FIR was registered on the complaint of Zahoor Mughal against the woman, Samina, the victim in the video, at City police station for stealing an LCD and some other valuables from the shop. Hailing from Gujrat, Samina was accused of stealing valuables from the shop.
However, the police also arrested Zahoor for assaulting the woman and taking law into hands after the video went viral. Further investigation is underway.
