ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A new medical board has examined the affected eye of incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail on Wednesday.
According to the jail administration, the medical team, consisting of five doctors and other medical staff, was formed by the Islamabad chief commissioner in compliance with the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) order.
Sources said that the medical team completed a thorough two-hour examination of the PTI founder’s affected eye.
The doctors include ENT specialist Professor Altaf Hussain, cardiologist Professor Akhtar Ali Bandesha, Dr Muhammad Ali Arif, and Professor Nadeem Qureshi from Al-Shifa Eye Hospital.
The checkup is being conducted in the presence of his wife, Bushra Bibi, the jail administration said.
The medical team also brought an ambulance equipped with modern and specialized equipment, so that all medical equipment and facilities are available during the check-up.
The full report from the medical board will be submitted to the Chief Commissioner shortly, the jail administration added.
It may be recalled that the court had ordered his examination after the PTI founder complained of eye pain, for which this team has been sent to Adiala Jail to implement it.
Last week, a division bench of the High Court comprising Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir and Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro directed Islamabad’s chief commissioner to constitute a medical board to assess the health condition of former premier Khan, while rejecting a petition seeking his transfer to a private hospital.
Imran Khan gets eye treatment
Earlier, on February 24, former Prime Minister Imran Khan was brought to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a follow-up eye treatment linked to the treatment of his right eye.
According to the PIMS ED, Imran Khan, 74, was brought to PIMS for follow-up eye treatment, i.e., second dose of anti-VEGF intravitreal injection on February 24, 2026.
“Before the procedure, he was examined by a board of specialists, including a Consultant Cardiologist who also performed Echocardiography and ECG (Results: NORMAL), and a Consultant Physician.”
The doctors had prescribed three injections for his eye care.
A press statement by the PIMS administration said that Imran Khan was found to be clinically stable.
“After obtaining informed consent, and under standard monitoring, precautionary measures and protocols in the operating theatre, he was injected with a second dose of intravitreal injection of Anti-VEGF under the guidance of a Consultant Ophthalmologist, and Consultant Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon of PIMS and Al Shifa Eye Hospital. The procedure was performed as a day care surgery,” the hospital admin said.
The press release further said that during the course of his stay, Imran Khan remained vitally stable before, during, and after the procedure, and was discharged along with instructions for care, follow-up advice, and the documents.
He was taken to the hospital under heightened security for the second time from Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail for treatment of the right eye after his first visit late in January.
