Massive fire takes lives of 15 newborn babies in PIMS hospital

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): In a tragic incident, a massive fire broke out in the newborn babies’ nursery at the Pakistan Medical Institute of Sciences (PIMS) on Wednesday morning.

According to the details, the fire burned almost 14 newborn babies present in the nursery at the time of the fire. The preliminary investigation reveals that the fire broke out in the third unit of the Gynae ward.

According to the PIMS hospital staff, 16 newborn babies were present in the nursery when the massive fire engulfed the nursery; however, one baby could be saved from the fire.

Rescue Officials stated that the fire started at 6:45 am after an air-conditioner compressor exploded inside the nursery at the hospital situated in the federal capital.

Rescue officials said that the blaze had been extinguished and teams were carrying out cooling operations at the site.

Investigation Committee Formed

An inquiry committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the additional deputy commissioner to investigate the fire incident.

The committee would determine the cause of the fire and ascertain how the incident occurred, according to the district administration.

As per rescue officials, the MCH ward was sealed after the incident, while parents alleged that staff were not present in the incubation centre when the fire broke out.

PM Shehbaz Expresses Grief

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow and grief over the tragic incident of fire in the nursery of PIMS Hospital in which 14 newborns died.

The Prime Minister expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the innocent children. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif took notice of the tragic incident of fire and directed the authorities to immediately investigate.

The Prime Minister has said that such a situation with children is irreparable. A detailed review of the motives of the incident should be conducted, the responsible should be determined, and the strictest action should be taken.

My heart is saddened by this tragic incident. The parents share equally in this grief. May Allah Almighty grant patience to the bereaved families, PM Shehbaz stated.
