BUENOS AIRES (Kashmir English): Argentina football star Lionel Messi is set to return to the national team for what is expected to be his farewell match.
The Argentine Football Association has confirmed that Messi will represent Argentina in a match against Benin in Buenos Aires on October 6.
Messi had previously announced his retirement from international football after Argentina’s defeat to Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. However, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has included the 26-man squad for the upcoming match against Benin.
The Argentine Football Association said Messi would be given a farewell fitting his international career.
Members of Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning squad will also be invited to the event, where a special ceremony is planned to mark the end of Messi’s international career.
