PESHAWAR (Kashmir English): The official sources have rejected the rumors that have been circulating on social media, which spoke about an alleged demand by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government for a security briefing from the Pakistan Army’s 11 Personnel, and have labeled the reports as “fabricated” and a part of a coordinated disinformation campaign.
Officials have said that no such letter or request was actually received via official channels and that the claim seems to be a political propaganda that has been disseminated through social media platforms associated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Sources close to the state procedures said communication between a provincial government and the Pakistan Army must follow the constitutional and administrative channels that are established.
Such requests have to be sent through the federal government to the Ministry of Defence, which coordinates with the General Headquarters (GHQ) to decide the proper way to respond.
Analysts say that this whole issue underscores what they call PTI’s poor grasp of governance and security coordination, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which is still one of the most terror-hit areas in the country.
They argued that in the course of eliminating terrorism, dedication of the institution, clarity of policy, and long-term planning should be the norm, while using symbolic political gestures should be the exception.
Besides, the observers have pointed out that the timing of the supposed request is such that it coincides with PTI suffering a political defeat in major cities, which has led critics to accuse the party of trying to keep its political relevance through administrative theatrics.
Security experts have warned that the issue of terrorism is not going to be resolved through political optics or social media narratives but only by means of structured coordination between federal and provincial governmental institutions.
