Muzaffarabad: Swift preparations have begun in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to celebrate Kashmir Solidarity Day on the 5th of February.

The day aims to renew the commitment to continue providing the fullest support to the Kashmiris’ legitimate right to self-determination, which India has denied for the past 76 years. This day also reaffirms complete solidarity with the brethren of turbulent Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK).

The primary intentions of Kashmir Solidarity Day are to honor the martyrs who died for the freedom of Kashmir and to express Pakistan’s solidarity and support for the people of Indian-occupied Kashmir and their continuous struggle for independence.

People in Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK), Pakistan, and millions worldwide, mostly Kashmiris, mark this as a globally respected day.

“In AJK, masses from all segments of civil society are actively engaged to chalk out detailed programs to re-pledge their solidarity with the people of Pakistan in a dignified manner on Kashmir Solidarity Day,” the organizers stated.

In an address to the third inter-ministerial and inter-provincial coordination meeting for the region solidarity in Islamabad, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam noted that thousands of Kashmiris have been martyred, thousands are imprisoned in Indian jails, and many children have become orphans.

He also stated that the government, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is bringing up the Kashmir dispute at all international forums, including the UN General Assembly. Kashmir Solidarity Day will be observed on the fifth of next month to show Pakistan’s support for the Kashmiris’ inalienable right to self-determination.

Major political and religious parties in Azad Kashmir and Pakistan also place a special political emphasis on Kashmir Day. These political and religious parties organize processions, rallies, conferences, and seminars where prominent public personalities, religious leaders, legislators, and opinion leaders appeal to the masses in favor of the Kashmiri liberation movement.

The ongoing rebellion against the Indian rule of Jammu and Kashmir started in 1989. In 1990, the Pakistani government declared it a public holiday due to its popularity and importance.

In addition to Azad Jammu Kashmir, Pakistanis worldwide celebrate Kashmir Solidarity Day on February 5 every year since this proclamation.
