LONDON (Kashmir English): England star white-ball batter Jos Buttler surpassed former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard to claim the world record for the most runs in the history of T20 cricket.
Representing Manchester Super Giants in The Hundred clash, Buttler crossed this historic milestone by unleashing a rain of sixes against Welsh Fire.
Each innings in The Hundred format is of 20 overs, that’s why its runs are counted in T20 records.
Speaking to the media after the match, Jos Buttler said, “I am proud of this achievement. Becoming the highest run-scorer in the history of T20 in the world is truly a wonderful and proud moment. Of course, someone will break this record one day.”
In response to the criticism regarding his poor form and lackluster performance in the T20 World Cup a few months ago, he said, “Conditions do not take long to change in cricket.
A few months ago, I was struggling for form and today I am perhaps playing my best batting. When your form is bad, there are only two ways: either give up or show the passion to make a comeback.”
T20 world record
It should be remembered that Kieron Pollard of West Indies had scored 14,803 runs playing 746 T20 matches, however, Jos Buttler broke this record in 521 matches.
Chris Gayle of West Indies is third on this list with 14,562 runs and England’s James Vince is fourth, having scored 14,449 runs.
From Pakistan, the player with the most runs in T20 cricket is star all-rounder Shoaib Malik, who scored 13,571 runs in 557 matches.
