ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Women Wing of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Islamabad staged a protest demonstration outside the National Press Club here on Saturday against the harsh verdict of an Indian court sentencing senior Hurriyat Kashmiri leader Aasiya Andrabi and other women to life imprisonment.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protest was organized following a call by Amir JI Pakistan, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman.
Key participants and speakers at the event included JI Islamabad’s Amir Engineer Nasrullah Randhawa, General Secretary Zubair Safdar, Deputy Secretary-General of the Women Wing Iffat Sajjad, former National Assembly member and Deputy Secretary-General of Women Wing JI Pakistan Ayesha Syed, Central Shura member Zubaida Khatoon, former National Assembly member (Balochistan) Bilqees Saif, as well as APHC-AJK leader Shamim Shawl and Women Wing organizer JI Islamabad Qudsia Namoos.
A large number of participants, including women, children, and girls from across the city, attended the protest to express solidarity with Kashmiri mothers and sisters.
Aasiya Andrabi and others convicted in fabricated cases
Notably, a special court of India’s notorious National Investigation Agency (NIA) recently sentenced Aasiya Andrabi to life imprisonment in a fabricated case, while her associates Nahida Nasreen and Fahmida Sofi were handed 30-year prison terms.
