MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) has again called for a protest on June 9 to press the government not only for implementation of the earlier agreed points but also for new demands.
A late-night statement issued after the consultative meeting held in Kotli Sarsawa, said the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee condemned the suicide incident involving a female student at Lahore University and demanded a transparent inquiry into it.
“The Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee states that we stand by our principled stance and demand that NTS and PSC be activated for appointments in the education and other departments, that the practice of ad-hoc appointments be stopped, and that the promotion quota be implemented.”
The Action Committee completely rejected the Accountability Bureau Act presented in the assembly on Tuesday, stating that this amendment will promote corruption. The Action Committee also demanded the immediate release of journalist Sohrab Barkat.
A member of the Action Committee said that there is concern over the non-publication of the list of names placed on the ECL and demanded that the list be published immediately.
Leaders of the Action Committee also expressed concern over the supply of substandard flour and demanded that the quality of flour be improved and allocation increased.
JAAC concern about health card
The Action Committee also expressed reservations about the health card, stating that the government and State Life Insurance Company should immediately address their concerns. Health facilities should be provided to the public 24 hours a day, they demanded.
The Action Committee has also announced its support for the protest by health workers. A member of the Action Committee said that the Committee announces a call for protest on June 9 for the implementation of 38 points details of which will be released after Eid.
He said that they are ready for meaningful negotiations, but the condition is that the demands be implemented immediately.
