RAWALAKOT (Kashmir English): In a move to provide quality education to the students, the Islamic Students’ Union of Azad Kashmir has demanded the restoration of the students’ union.

During a press conference held at Ghazi Millat Press Club (Registered) in Rawalakot, the Islamic Students’ Union of Azad Kashmir made several demands, including the establishment of new education boards in Poonch and Muzaffarabad, provision of a building for the Medical College in Poonch, and the provision of hostel facilities for university students.

Additionally, the Union warned the government that they would announce a protest and sit-in if their demands were not met after exhausting all legal avenues.

Nazim Islamic Students’ Union of Azad Kashmir Gilgit-Baltistan Ehtesham-ul-Hasan, Nazim Islamic Students’ Union of Rawalakot Abdul Hanan, along with other officials, Behzad Khan, Shahrukh Abdullah, were all present at the press conference.

While addressing a press conference said that students are the bright future of every society. Their education, training, and protection of freedom of expression are indispensable for the development of any nation.

Students have always played an important role in the educational, social, and political fields. In the past, student unions not only fought for students’ rights but also raised their voices in support of democracy and freedom of expression.

After the ban on student unions, the voices of students were silenced, and their problems were left without representation. After the ban on student unions, many problems arose in educational institutions that students were unable to organize themselves and solve.

Unfair increase in fees, lack of facilities in educational institutions, lack of library, laboratory, and sports opportunities, and residential problems faced by students are at the top of the list.

To solve all these, students need an organized representative body that can effectively convey their problems to the relevant authorities.

Today, if students raise their voices for their rights within the universities of Azad Kashmir, they have to face many kinds of difficulties and problems, they are blackmailed, their families are threatened by calls, then heavy fines are imposed, which is a very regrettable process due to which not only they are unable to raise their voices for their problems but are also forced to continue their educational activities amidst many kinds of difficulties and problems.

He asked journalists that in Azad Kashmir, a few families and their three generations are present in the assembly. Is this style of politics correct? Has politics become their legacy only?

He said that a notification was also issued for the revival of the Azad Kashmir Students Union, but, regrettably, there has been no progress in this regard so far.

We all have to play a role in the suffering that today’s students are facing due to the problems of the medical college building, the difficulties of the students regarding the Mirpur Education Board, the lack of hostel facilities in universities and the severe problems so that our future generations do not have to go through these problems and difficulties tomorrow.

He said that a protest was held in Kashmir University regarding the issues, where a heavy contingent of police not only tried to suppress the students’ voices but also tortured them.

Similarly, in all universities, whenever students come out for their rights, they are treated very badly. The system of the Mirpur Education Board is also such that students are being severely exploited.

How they are treated during the marking of the papers of highly qualified and qualified youth is in front of everyone. Requesting for paper re-check and then later simply adding and subtracting does not benefit them, nor is it possible to address the exploitative behavior towards them.

For this, it is necessary to establish new education boards in Muzaffarabad and Poonch and address these issues so that those students who are left behind in the competition due to this inappropriate behavior due to just a few marks, can be exploited.

He said that today the treatment that is being given due to class education is also Against this, the Islamic Students’ Union has decided to launch an organized movement for the immediate resolution of these issues, and if these issues are not resolved despite taking legal means, then no protest will be avoided.
