MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba Azad Kashmir has held a press conference against educational issues, corruption, and the non-transparent results of the Mirpur Board.

The leaders announced that students will be gathered from all over Azad Kashmir on November 13, and a protest convention will be held. They said that the protest will continue until the demands of the students are accepted.

The representatives of the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba said that students are the future of the state, but the current education system is suffering from corruption, mismanagement, and incompetence.

The recent results of the Mirpur Board have wasted years of the hard work of thousands of students. Due to unfair marks, many students are under mental stress and are being forced to take steps like suicide.

The leaders demanded that a transparent system be introduced in the Mirpur Board and an easy and effective procedure for paper re-checking be made.

They said that all three campuses of the University of Kashmir are closed, fees are increasing, and performance is nonexistent.

Despite the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor four months ago, there has been no improvement. Students are not provided with transport facilities, despite having five buses; none are functional. The results of many students have not been released even after four years.

Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba demanded that the students’ union be restored so that students can highlight their own problems. They said that the education budget should be increased and an anti-harassment cell should be established immediately in the university.

The leaders further said that there is a severe shortage of teachers in schools and colleges, while teachers in private schools are given only Rs 4,000, which is affecting the quality of education.

More than 500 private schools are running in Muzaffarabad, which are doing business in the name of education. They demanded that a transparent investigation be conducted into the looting in the name of privatization.
