Islamabad SP Adeel Akbar fatally shoots himself

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Islamabad Police officer, Superintendent of Police (SP) Industrial Area Zone Adeel Akbar, on Thursday allegedly shot himself and died, police sources said.

According to the initial reports, Adeel Akbar received a phone call and, after listening to it, he took his gunman’s weapon and shot himself in the chest.

According to the statement shared by Islamabad Police spokesperson, “SP I-9 Adeel Akbar was on his way to his office from Constitution Avenue when he died inside his own vehicle due to a gunshot.”

After the incident, he was shifted to PIMS Hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to injuries.

Senior police officials, including DIG Islamabad, SSP Security Islamabad, SSP Investigation Rawalpindi, and Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon, reached the hospital.

IG Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, ordered an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the suicide incident. While a heavy police contingent has been deployed outside the hospital.

Moreover, police have taken the gunman, the operator, and other staff members of SP present at the scene into custody.

Sources said that the deceased police officer was reportedly diagnosed with dengue three days ago, and despite that, he remained on duty all the time. He had applied for leave due to illness several times.

Adeel Akbar hailed from the Gujrat district of Punjab and had a one-year-old daughter. Adeel Akbar belonged to the 46th common training programme of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) and was the topper of his batch in CSS.
