ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Several universities in Islamabad and Punjab have announced online classes and work-from-home for staff amid road blockages linked to the planned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) march on September 27.
As per details, Air University Islamabad has notified online classes from September 25 to 27.
According to the notification, online classes will be held at Air University Main Campus, Fazaia Medical College Islamabad, and Kamra Campus.
It further said that faculty members and staff of the respective campuses will do work from home. Weekend classes scheduled for Sept. 26 and 27 will also be held online, the university said.
Furthermore, the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has also announced the conduct of all classes online on Friday, Sept. 25, according to a notification.
“All classes will be held through Google Classroom according to the existing timetable, while heads of departments and sections have been directed to ensure implementation of the decision,” it stated.
Comsats University Islamabad has already shifted classes online for an indefinite period. The university also notified online classes at its Wah and Attock campuses from Thursday (today).
“Classes at Comsats University, Islamabad, shall be conducted through Online Teaching Mode, as per the notified semester schedule/timetable, with effect from September 24, 2026 until further notice,” a notification stated.
University of the Punjab Jhelum Campus has also shifted classes of all semesters to online mode initially for September 25 and 26.
Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has separately directed its employees to work from home on Friday and Monday because of possible road closures.
The registrar issued the notification following approval from the vice chancellor.
Other universities in twin cities, including KMU, Hamdard University, National Skills University, Bahria University, NUTECH, NUML, PMAS Arid Agriculture Rawalpindi, Fatima Jinnah Women University, and UET Taxila also declared online classes.
The measures came after the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) closed the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M1), the Islamabad-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway (M14), and GT Road (N5) section at Attock Khurd for an indefinite period to stop the PTI protesters.
