Is YouTube getting ban in Pakistan?

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Following the Pahalgam incident, tensions between India and Pakistan have increased, and both nations seem to be on high alert, with possible military action imminent.

Digital platforms have emerged as a new front in the war in the unstable climate, with India blocking popular Pakistani YouTube channels.

Social media posts stating YouTube will soon be blocked in Pakistan were circulated online during the digital blackout.

The widely circulated fake screenshots of a notification from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) imply that the well-known video-sharing website has been disabled because it contains blasphemous content.

Citing court decisions and popular sentiment, the viral messages purportedly came from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), which ordered internet service providers to block access to YouTube, a video streaming site.

However, PTA has denied any rumors about the news and clarified that the post circulating online is from 2011, when Pakistan ordered PTA to restrict YouTube due to blasphemy riots, which are being shared on Indian social media accounts.

As part of a larger response to public outcry at the time, PTA took action to restrict access to the platform.

In 2025, neither the federal government nor the telecom authorities has made any formal announcements on a new YouTube ban.
