LUCKNOW, India (Kashmir English): An unusual case has emerged in India where a woman has sought police help to arrange her marriage after her family blocked several proposals.
Woman from Uttar Pradesh has submitted an application to the police, complaining that her family had been avoiding her marriage in order to save expenses.
According to Indian media reports, Madhuri Patel, a resident of Sarai Inayat in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, said she wished to marry, but her brother and brother-in-law repeatedly created obstacles and had rejected several marriage proposals.
She told the police that her brother had transferred family land into his own name and was no longer willing to take responsibility for arranging her marriage.
In her application, Madhuri Patel nominated her father, mother, brother and brother-in-law, stating that she had been living alone for the past 20 years and meeting her own expenses.
She also accused her family of mistreatment, adding she had suffered mental distress as well as physical abuse.
“Arrange my marriage”
Madhuri Patel sought police help in finding a suitable man and arrange her marriage so that she could live with dignity.
The police said an inquiry had begun in the complaint and that action would be taken on the basis of evidence.
