MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Indian shelling in Azad Kashmir has caused devastating human and material losses, as reported by the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA). The latest figures reveal a tragic toll on innocent civilians following continuous, unprovoked firing and shelling from the Indian side.

The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has published its latest report about the scenario along the Line of Control (LoC), where significant civilian casualties and infrastructural damages have occurred as a result of recent hostilities.

In addition to the tragic loss of life, Indian shelling in Azad Kashmir has also wreaked havoc on infrastructure. According to the SDMA, a total of 141 residential houses have been destroyed so far. Among these, twelve houses have been partially damaged, while the rest have been completely levelled by Indian firepower.

Today’s report records 6 fatalities, 4 men and 2 women, and 29 injuries, 17 men, 9 women, and 3 children. The worst-hit district was Kotli, where 2 men were martyred and 14 others injured, including 5 women and 2 children.

Bagh and Haveli districts also suffered casualties, with 1 martyr and 4 injured in Bagh, and 2 injured civilians in Haveli. Structural damage includes 2 fully destroyed homes and the loss of 2 cattle, while no shops were reported damaged today.

According to the cumulative toll for May 07 to 09,2025, over the past three days, the violence has claimed 17 lives,11 men, 5 women, and 1 child, and left 63 injured, 26 men, 17 women, and 8 children. Infrastructure damage is severe, with 127 homes fully destroyed and 1 partially damaged.

Critical losses include 3 mosques, 1 school, and 1 government college partially damaged, alongside 2 vehicles, 1 cattle shed, and 10 shops destroyed.

The districts of Kotli and Poonch have borne the brunt of the attacks. In Kotli alone, eight people were martyred and 20 others injured. Poonch faced an even more heartbreaking toll, with nine people, seven of them children, losing their lives. A staggering 62 homes were flattened in the Poonch district alone.

Overnight, shelling concentrated in Neelum, Grais, Kel, Jhelum Valley, Leepa, Chakothi, Haveli, Chirikot, and Bhedi, with Haveli’s sectors witnessing the most intense fire.

The Pakistani government and armed forces continue to monitor the situation closely and have vowed to stand firm in defence of their people. Indian shelling in Muzaffarabad has once again exposed India’s cruel tactics against the peaceful residents of Azad Kashmir.
