NEW DEHLI (Kashmir English): The Indian Premier League (IPL) has reportedly been suspended, according to claims by Indian media outlets.

According to the BCCI official, “it does not look nice that cricket goes on while the country is at war,” Press Trust India (PTI) said.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended IPL 2025 due to escalating cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. An official statement regarding the tournament’s postponement is expected soon.

The decision follows Thursday’s abrupt abandonment of the Punjab Kings vs. Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala during the first innings. With local airports closed, both teams were transported to Delhi via a specially arranged IPL train on Friday morning.

The suspended season had completed 58 matches, including the curtailed Dharamsala fixture. Twelve group-stage games across nine venues – along with playoffs scheduled for Hyderabad and Kolkata, now stand postponed. Affected locations include Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Mumbai among others.

With the final set for May 25 in Kolkata, the cricket event was approaching its playoff round. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Super Giants were scheduled to play each other at Ekana Stadium on May 9.

The sudden halt in the tournament has raised questions, though the exact reasons remain undisclosed at this stage. More updates are awaited as the situation develops.
