COLOMBO: In a recent development, India defeated Pakistan by 88 runs in the crucial match of the Women’s World Cup to strengthen their position in the event. Chasing a target of 248 runs, the Pakistani team was bundled out for just 159 runs.
Pakistan’s opener Sidra Amin batted brilliantly and scored 81 runs, but the rest of the players could not show much performance.
Natalia Parvez scored 33, Sidra Nawaz scored 14, and Diana Baig scored 9 runs. Captain Fatima Sana, Muniba Ali, and Alia Riaz returned to the pavilion after scoring only 2 runs.
Granthi God and Deepti Sharma bowled brilliantly for India, taking 3 wickets each, which completely paralyzed the Pakistani batting line.
Earlier, India scored 247 runs in the stipulated 50 overs while batting first. Harleen Deol 46, Jemima Rodrigues 32, Pratika Rawal 31, and Richa Ghosh stood out with an aggressive 35 runs off 20 balls.
Diana Baig bowled well for Pakistan and took 4 wickets, while Sadia Iqbal and Fatima Sana took 2 wickets each.
This is the second consecutive defeat for the Pakistan Women’s team in the event, while the Indian team further strengthened its position in the next stage with this victory.
