ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA)  has stated that there are chances that the heavy taxes on imported mobile phones, including iPhone may drop across Pakistan in 2026.

As per PTA officials, the existing tax policy has made it difficult for the majority of the population to acquire new-generation smartphones, and the concern from the public about it is escalating.

Sources reported the recommendations made by the PTA to the government on the assertion that mobile phones can no longer be considered luxury gadgets but have become a necessity in education, business, online banking, and employment.

High duties on mobile phones imported into the country have made it difficult for consumers to afford modern technology.

The PTA further stated that overseas Pakistanis also face serious problems in bringing their mobile phones along with them upon returning to the country. They said that because of taxation, the process of registering these phones at airports has become very costly for overseas Pakistanis.

The authority pointed out that a fair reduction in taxes would benefit the public while also increasing the legal status of importing mobile phones.
