KARACHI (Kashmir English): The International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission and Pakistani authorities have made significant progress in the staff-level agreement.
An IMF team led by Iva Petrova visited Karachi and Islamabad from September 24 to October 8, during which discussions were held with Pakistani authorities on the second review under the Extended Fund Facility and the first review under the Resilience Fund.
According to a statement issued by the IMF, the implementation of the program is ongoing in accordance with the government’s commitments.
The statement said that progress was made in the talks on several important issues, including supporting the rehabilitation of flood victims while maintaining fiscal discipline, and prudent monetary policy to keep inflation within the State Bank’s target.
The statement said that energy sector reforms and reducing the scope of government institutions, as well as strengthening transparency and governance, were also part of the discussions.
The IMF said that discussions will continue at the policy level with Pakistani authorities to resolve the remaining issues.
